Crafting is how you turn early-game scavenging into real power. In Soulframe everything flows through Tuvalkane, the Nightfold's blacksmith, and it works on a real-time timer rather than instant crafting. Here's how to unlock her, how the forge works, where your materials come from, and what to make first.
Unlocking Tuvalkane (The Steelsinger Quest)
Crafting is locked until you complete The Steelsinger quest and recruit Tuvalkane:
- Go to Oro's Well, in the center of Midrath.
- Clear the enemies guarding the area and pick up the Moonsteel Helm. (Ranged attackers are the biggest threat here.)
- Carry the helm north toward an abandoned forge, following your Sparrow. You can set the helm down to fight, then pick it back up.
- At the destination, Tuvalkane's ghost appears and takes the helm. After the dialogue, interact with her and she relocates to your Nightfold.
- Enter the Nightfold (press TAB) and approach the glowing orb of light — her forge spawns there.
How Crafting Works
- Speak to Tuvalkane at the Nightfold forge to open the crafting menu.
- Jobs run in real time (measured in hours, not seconds) and continue while you're logged out.
- You can queue multiple jobs at once; claim finished items from the "Assembled" tab.
- Bond level matters. Increase your Bond with Tuvalkane by crafting common items (e.g. Vasp-IV) to unlock better recipes. Bond 3 unlocks Pact recipes, including Garren Rood.
- Most items need Fragments (found in treasure chests and dungeons) plus raw materials.

Materials & Where to Farm Them
Gossamer Quartz
An Uncommon material used for weapons, armor, and Pacts — most notably the Garren Rood Pact, which reportedly needs 10 Gossamer Quartz (plus Scrap Iron and Patch Leather) [to verify].

Getting Crypt Keys: your first Crypt Key is guaranteed from the Pay Respects Sparrow's Tale (the Grave Digger step). More come from Basic Chests. (A past hotfix removed Crypt Keys from dungeon Rare Chests, so don't plan around that route.)
Scrap Iron
- Fastest source: Sword Racks in Dermak Undercity.
- Also drops from almost any container and Weapon Racks.
Patch Leather
- Fastest source: breakables/containers in Dermak Undercity; Sproutfolk camps east of Nightfold.
- No single dedicated node — it accumulates passively during Undercity or Glades runs.
Farming tip
Scrap Iron and Patch Leather drop from the same barrels/chests in Dermak Undercity, so loop Undercity containers to farm both at once.
Crafting Priority (What to Make First)
- A no-gate weapon that matches your Virtue (e.g. Wulder for Courage melee, Nettle for fast melee, Thistle for ranged) — biggest early power spike.
- A second weapon of a different type for coverage (AoE/farming or ranged/puzzle).
- A matching armor piece in your Virtue's class (Heavy=Courage, Light=Spirit, Medium=Grace).
- Build Tuvalkane Bond by crafting cheap common items, aiming for Bond 3 to unlock Pact recipes (e.g. Garren Rood).
